Eilidh graduated from St Andrews University before obtaining her doctorate at the University of Sheffield. She has had a long association with the Cambridge Group for the History of Social Structure, working on the historical demography of the British Isles in the Victorian and Edwardian eras. Her research has involved the use of large datasets, transcribed from both censuses and civil registers, and considerable amounts of record linkage. Eilidh is currently a Research Fellow in the Department of History, University of Essex
